Meet Squid!

,

When we moved here, I was 7 years old.  I'm 11 now, so that makes it FOUR YEARS that we've been living here!

My nickname is Squid, short for Squidward, like the character on Sponge Bob.  I’m also called Squidilicous, Squidlet and Squidman.   My Mom calls me Squidward when she wants to be more serious.  Of course, if I’m really in trouble, then she calls me William.

I don’t really remember when or why everyone started calling me this, but I think it’s funny and I like my nickname!

Do you have a nickname?  Do you like it?  I think nicknames are only fun when you like them!  It would stink to have people calling you a name you didn’t like.

My favorite animal is the sloth.  In September our site will feature a Super Natural Adventure video I made about sloths.   What's your favorite animal?

Adjusting to the Jungle

The first day of Costa Rican school I felt pretty embarrassed because everybody was a different color, speaking another language and I had no freinds. But after the first 2 weeks I had very nice friends, knew some of the games they liked to play and got along well in school. Most of the kids were kind to us. Once we were playing tag in the rain and I fell in the mud. One of my new friends helped me wash it all off. It made me feel good that there was someone who helped me.

One of my favorite experiences in Costa Rica was the night we went on a hike in the rainforest at Tirimbina Rainforest Center. It was raining and muddy and we were looking for tree frogs.  We made a Super Natural Adventures video about it (ask my dad about how hard it is to film in the dark in the rain!).  You'll be able to see the video here on our website later this year.

My Thoughts On the Environment

I think people who lived long ago were lucky because they lived on an earth that was clean and they didn't have anything to use to pollute the Earth. I like how they didn't need to have air conditioning, electricity, wires, gasoline and all that stuff. They were perfect with just sharp rocks, catching fish, a couple clothes (made from animal skin) and some bow and arrows, maybe some horses and that's all.

If I have kids and then my kids have kids, I don't think my grandkids will have that good of a life because it's going to be all polluted and disgusting and it's going to be hard to find clean water unless we take action now and clean up the Earth.

What do YOU think about the environment?  What kinds of things do you think people can do to help it?  Send me an e-mail at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  and I'll put your thoughts and ideas on our site for other kids to read!

"Squid" and Ryan

I don't know WHAT is going on with Ryan's hair in this photo !

I think Congo the Parrot nested in there last night.
